I think the gift certificate option is a good idea. It can be promoted on the website and on Facebook, too.

Fellow Genesee Wanderers:

We now have the option to purchase a gift certificate for GWCC
membership on our website. Upon purchase, the recipient will be sent an
email with a link and code for membership. A custom message can also be
included.
