Just a Community Informational Piece,

My wife came down Lennon Road last night after work and she followed a group of cyclists riding (Maybe 10) from Oak Street to the church parking lot (1/2 mile). They were riding four across in the right lane and were partially in the left lane as well. They never tried to yield the second lane for her to pass. Melanie commented that she now understands why she and I get hostile honks from cars as they pass us on our rides at times, even though we are obeying the laws for cyclists. Please remember that the actions of a few can affect the whole community of cyclists. She did not know which group of Tuesday night she was following. Maybe the group did not know the law that we can ride only two abreast in one lane, or maybe they lost mental focus. I know have made mistakes at times due to loss of focus. I guess this email is to bring awareness and maybe educate about the rules of the road. There is no animosity towards anyone in this informational piece, but a reminder for all who bike on public roads that we represent and ride for a larger community of cyclists. We also ride for the safety and well-being of everyone, including cyclists and those driving in automobiles. Melanie thought it was not a good look for our cycling community, so I thought I would share it with you! My desire is that this will be received well.
